The
following list of instruments have been used in various combinations
in their 5 recordings. Special lecture/demonstrations can
be arranged for schools. Call (808) 524-8416. These instruments
give the music of the Andes it’s unique sound.
Zampoñas (pan flutes) each have their
own voice. They are hand made from bamboo of differernt
thicknesses and which grow in the Ecuadorian jungles.
Their pipes are separated into different instruments.
They are made in a variety of sizes and scales, the most
common being a range of four sizes of 15cm to 1.5cm in
length.
Rondadores are typically from Ecuador and vary
in size and scale through a complex
arrangement of alternating pipes.
Quena is a pre-Columbian flute made of reed without
a mouthpiece. These flutes come in different sizes and
scales and vary in length. They are made of different
kinds of bamboo which receive special preparation and
nowadays are also made of wood.
Bombo (drum) is unusual in appearance due to
the use of goat skin complete with wool.
Charango (Ecuadorian ukulele) resembles a small
24 inch guitar with 10 strings.
Originally made from the shell of the armadillo it is
now carved out of wood for conservation purposes.
